Personal Formation and Forte

Renda is founder and President of Burkhart & Company, P.C. After graduating with highest honors from the University of Tennessee, she worked for Arthur Andersen & Company in its Chattanooga and Knoxville offices.  Her vision for a niche CPA firm was sparked by a desire to holistically serve enterprising individuals and their families.

Bringing elegant design, balance and order to anything gives Renda a charge. Reducing complex matters to crystallized decision points is her forte. Renda’s most notable leadership quality is her ability to see the virtues and giftedness in others.

Turning Points

  • Realizing her affinity for the analytical as she taught daily imaginary math classes after elementary school days
  • Landing her first paid job working for her father’s CPA at the age of 18
  • Leaving “Big Eight” accounting in 1982 and a national software venture in 1997 to focus all her professional energy in Burkhart & Company
  • Delighting in a C. S. Lewis symposium in Oxford and Cambridge in 1998 themed “Loose in the Fire” making clear to her the importance of her post and her true calling

Practice Emphasis

With more than forty years of concentrated experience, Renda has developed considerable expertise in personal and business financial management and especially enjoys working one-on one with clients. Areas of focus include:

  • Navigating through the entrepreneurial experience,
  • Working with clients through the challenges inherent in business and personal transitions,
  • Helping clients align vision, purpose and use of resources toward creating legacy, and
  • Applying effective charitable and family gifting techniques.

Broader Interests

Through the years Renda has served on numerous boards of public and private foundations, non-profit organizations and closely-held businesses. She currently serves on the boards of University Health Systems, Pinnacle Financial Partners, and the Cornerstone Foundation. She enjoys listening to and encouraging others, especially those bound for leadership roles. Bookstores, gardens and relaxed gatherings in her home are favorite recreational sites.
